Our Home Where It All Began…
At Yates Family Labradors, everything starts at home.
We take immense pride in raising our dogs and puppies as true members of the family. Unlike large-scale breeding operations or traditional kennels, our program is intentionally designed to remain personal, structured, and hands-on.
At our home in Arlington, we maintain a limited number of adult dogs to ensure each one receives individual attention, proper care, and a high level of daily interaction. Our extended program includes carefully selected guardian homes—family members and close, trusted partners who raise our dogs in the same environment and to the same standards we uphold.
“Labrador Land”
Affectionately referred to by our family as “Labrador Land,” our home is a place full of life, structure, and purpose.
We operate in full compliance with Arlington County regulations, including a business license and home occupancy permit. Our program is intentionally structured to align with these standards while still providing an exceptional environment for our dogs and puppies.
This balance allows us to remain small enough to be personal—while structured enough to be professional.
A Purpose-Built Environment
Our property features over 8,500 square feet of artificial turf, designed for cleanliness, safety, and year-round usability. This creates a controlled, sanitary space where puppies can explore, play, and develop with confidence.
Inside the home, every detail is intentional:
-Puppies are born in a sanitized whelping area within our living space
-Early neurological development begins from day one
-At 10–14 days, as eyes and ears open, puppies transition to one of our dedicated nursery spaces
-Each stage of development is carefully managed, monitored, and documented
This structured environment allows us to raise puppies that are not only healthy—but confident, stable, and well-adjusted.
Raising Confident, Well-Adjusted Puppies
From the very beginning, our puppies are immersed in real-life experiences.
They are:
-Handled daily by adults and children
-Exposed to household sounds and activity
-Introduced to new environments, textures, and surfaces
-Given opportunities for outdoor exploration and water introduction (weather permitting)
We intentionally build a foundation that prepares each puppy for a smooth transition into their new home—whether as a family companion, hunting partner, or future service dog.
Daily Life at YFL
Our dogs live with us—not separate from us.
They are crate trained as puppies and transition to dog beds—or occasionally even human beds—as they mature.
All adult dogs sleep indoors, either in our bedrooms or in crates depending on age and training. Puppies are introduced to structured routines that include early crate exposure, potty training foundations, and consistent feeding schedules.
We feed all of our dogs and puppies Purina Pro Plan to ensure optimal nutrition throughout every stage of development.
Every part of our daily routine is designed with long-term health, behavior, and adaptability in mind.
Transparency & Trust
One of the things that truly sets Yates Family Labradors apart is our commitment to openness.
We encourage families to ask questions at any time—we are an open book and believe in full transparency throughout the entire process.
We maintain an open-door philosophy following an initial phone consultation. At the same time, we are intentional about respecting the balance between our home and our business.
Families are invited to visit, meet our dogs, and see firsthand the level of care and attention each puppy receives. We also host a dedicated “Family Day” around six weeks of age for each litter, where families with confirmed reservations can spend time with the puppies in person.
We believe that choosing a breeder should come with complete confidence—and that starts with transparency.
More Than a Breeding Program
This isn’t just where we work—it’s where we live.
Our home is where our dogs grow, where our puppies take their first steps, and where lifelong connections begin. Every decision we make is rooted in the belief that these dogs are not just part of our program—they are part of our family.
